News for Mile High Branch, AALAS Members
In Memory of Jon C. Fulfs, PhD

Lifetime Mile High Branch member, Jon Fulfs, passed away after a long illness on August 1, 2010, in Johnstown, Colorado. He was 68 years old.
Jon moved to Colorado from Ohio to start a new private laboratory, Inhausen Research Institute, Inc. Jon served as President of Inhausen until he retired and sold his interest in the company. The company continues to do business in Ft. Collins under the new name of High Quality Research, LLC.
Jon was a fixture from the day he arrived until his life changed and he looked forward to retirement. By 1983, he was on the Board, in 1984 he was President - elect and President in 1985. These were critical years for the branch as we were a young branch, trying to grow and getting ready to host our first national meeting in 1987. Since the majority of the branch funds were obtained through meeting registrations and sponsorships, Jon was diligent in recruiting good speakers and sponsors for our events.
As many will recall, he was a glutton for punishment and a stickler for details. In this regard, he volunteered to review and rewrite our by-laws and policies in 1983. He received whole hearted support from the rest of board when he took on that task. In recognition of his efforts, the branch honored him as Branch Member of the Year in 1986.
Jon was very active in our 1987 National Meeting projects. He also maintained a special interest in technician training, education and mentoring. In 1996, he generously provided $3000 to support the Technician of the Year Award. The funds were to be available for "educational purposes such as books and other appropriate educational literature or to offset the cost of attending the national meeting." The board voted to re-entitle the award to the Jon C. Fulfs Technician Award.
In 1996, Jon wrote, "the charitable funding here submitted is a reflection of my own personal feeling toward the MHB, Inc. and that which it has accomplished.---so recognize the branch for its continuing efforts over time to accomplish the education endpoints as described in its charter."
Jon was a supportive and fun fellow to be around. He brought a light to the branch and will be missed by many.
